RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Saying he is standing up for the rule of law and giving support to local law enforcement, Gov. Pat McCrory signed into law House Bill 318, known as the law that outlaws sanctuary cities in North Carolina.

The law prevents any city or county from having in effect any policy, ordinance, or procedure that would restrict the enforcement of federal immigration law.

The text of the law can be found at http://ncleg.net/Sessions/2015/Bills/House/PDF/H318v7.pdf.

Joining the governor in Greensboro for the signing were a group of sheriffs, community leaders and members of the governor's Advisory Council on Hispanic and Latino Affairs.

“Public safety officials must have the flexibility and tools to investigate crimes and sanctuary city policies deprive law enforcement of those tools," the governor said.

Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes stressed the rule of law sa well. “When I go to other countries I go legally and adhere to the laws. Can we not, as the greatest nation in the world, expect others to do the same," said Barnes, according to a statement from the governor's office.
