RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - State Medicaid officials are signaling their progress in bringing stability to the program with a statement that Medicaid has ended the fiscal year with cash left over.
"As a result of the dedication to responsible budgeting practices by Governor McCrory and the General Assembly together with improved forecasting and management by the Department of Health and Human Services, North Carolina's Medicaid budget is in far better shape," said Secretary Aldona Wos, M.D. in the statement.

"Finishing with cash on hand for a second consecutive year is an indication that we continue to make progress in strengthening our state's Medicaid program."

Medicaid has drawn much media scrutiny for years. Prior to the past two fiscal years, the Medicaid program experienced shortfalls of nearly $2 billion over a four year period.
