RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The North Carolina National Guard’s Alpha Battery is heading to Bahrain, having been deployed in support of U.S. Navy Central Command. The soldiers will provide security in Bahrain, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Alpha Battery deployed with the 1-113th Battalion and the 30th Brigade on two occasions supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and 2009.

As part of the dual mission of the National Guard, Alpha Battery was also activated in 2012 to support the Democratic National Convention. Their mission was to secure key facilities throughout the city of Charlotte and be prepared to react should civil unrest present itself.
