RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Citing work "tirelessly to bridge the needs of our primary car providers," a key physicians group has honored state Medicaid Director Robin Cummings with its 2014 Presidential Award.

Dr. Robin Cummings received the honor from board chair William A. Dennis at the group's recent winter meeting.

"[Dr. Cummings] is working tirelessly to bridge the needs of our primary care providers, the legislature, Medicaid recipients and the state's taxpayers," said Dennis. "Most importantly, he is an advocate for the patients served by Medicaid and those providing care for these patients."

Dr. Cummings has led Medicaid since April 2014.

North Carolina's Medicaid program oversees health care delivery for more than 1.8 million low-income parents, children, seniors and people with disabilities who cannot afford health care.

The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians is the state's largest specialty medical association, with a membership of more than 3,700 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students.
