RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Construction fatalities are up in 2014, leading the Department of Labor to work with its allies to produce a new public service announcement campaign to combat the spike.

As of the end of October, 14 people had lost their lives on North Carolina construction sites. That's double the seven who died during the same period last year, according to the Labor Department's November/December newsletter, Labor Ledger.

The newsletter reports that half of the deaths involved Hispanic workers.

The ad campaign will run through the end of the year and will focus on falls, carbon monoxide exposure, and more.

Builders Mutual Insurance Co. subsidized a $5,000 media buy. Univision is doing a 1 to 1 match on the ad buy.

The newsletter is available online at http://www.nclabor.com/news/ledger/14Nov_Dec.pdf
