Five North Carolinians Appointed To Seats On State Watchdog Boards Print

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Five North Carolinians will take seats on three different boards that serve as overseers of licensed occupations.

Gov. Pat McCrory made the appointments this week.

** North Carolina State Board of Barber Examiners
Steffon Sharpless of Durham County is a consultant in nonprofit management/business development.

Don Beal of Catawba County is the owner of the Hair Connection.

Valerie Willis of Wake County is a test analyst for Verisk Health as well as CEO of Metro Style, Inc.

The board regulates the practice of barbering within the state, collects and records fees for certification and protects the health, safety and welfare of the general public by ensuring that barbering services are performed by competent barbers in clean establishments. The term length is three years.
 
** North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board
Dr. Susan Bull of Buncombe County is a veterinarian with the Animal Hospital of Waynesville.

The board promotes the public health, safety and welfare of the people of the state by safeguarding them against unqualified or incompetent practitioners of veterinary medicine. The term length is five years.
 
** North Carolina Parks & Recreation Authority
Neal Lewis of New Hanover County is a former New Hanover County Parks director. This is a reappointment.

The Parks and Recreation Authority receives private and public donations, appropriations, grants and revenue for the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. Members work to allocate funds for land acquisitions, repairs and improvements. The term length is three years.
