RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - In honor of Family Day, Gov. Pat McCrory issued the following proclamation. It coincides with First Lady Ann McCrory's urging of North Carolina parents to spend more time with their children, including holding family dinners.

Mrs. McCrory said spending time with family is a key tool in working to fend off substance abuse and addition issues.

The proclamation is as follows.
------------------------

WHEREAS, Family Day is a national initiative created by CASAColumbia®, which encourages acts of parental engagement with children to help prevent substance abuse amongst children and teenagers; and

WHEREAS, since its inception in 2001, Family Day has now grown into a national movement with sponsorships ranging from all over the United States; and

WHEREAS, daily interaction with one’s children, such as family dinners or commuting to athletic practices, has a meaningful impact on a child; and

WHEREAS, these daily interactions provide an invaluable opportunity for parents to communicate with their children and gain important insight into their children’s lives; and

WHEREAS, by pledging to be a Family Day Star, parents make a commitment to reinforce their family’s unity and commitment to one another; and

WHEREAS, parents should be motivated to spend quality time with their family to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of their children; and

WHEREAS, additional information on Family Day can be found at the website www.CASAFamilyDay.org or on Facebook and Twitter;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAT McCRORY, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 22, 2014, as “FAMILY DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this second day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and fourteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-ninth.
