North Carolina To Participate In Governors Association Policy Academy On Prescription Drug Abuse Print

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - North Carolina has been selected by the National Governors Association (NGA) to be part of a policy academy tasked with looking the problem of prescription drug abuse.

 
Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin were also selected by the NGA. 
 
Gov. Pat McCrory was recently named to the NGA's Executive Committee. 
 
The prescription drug academy will be led by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin, whose states also will participate. 
 
The abuse of prescriptions drugs is the fastest-growing drug problem in the United States, according to the organization. The academy will focus on  developing comprehensive statewide action plans that rely on the use of data and evidence-based strategies to address the problem.
