RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - To honor North Carolinians who fought in the Korean War, all North Carolina state flags will be lowered on Sunday, July 27, Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.

The North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs estimates that 149,754 North Carolina citizens served in Korea between 1950 and 1953.

Flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

“While their sacrifice is often overlooked, tens of millions of people on the Korean peninsula are free because North Carolinians were among those who selflessly answered their country’s call to defeat tyranny," Gov. McCrory said in a statement.
