RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - As the June 30 deadline nears to file claims, the Office for Justice of Sterilization Victims has received 520 forms from potential Eugenics Board sterilization victims.

Roughly 60 percent of the claims -- 320 -- have been forwarded to the state's Industrial Commission to determine whether the claimants are eligible for compensation.

Other forms are either missing information or require additional research, according to state officials.

In 2013, Governor Pat McCrory signed legislation that appropriated $10 million and established a process to compensate citizens sterilized under the state’s eugenics program.
