RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The deputy director of the state's Division of Waste Management has been promoted to the top job. Linda Culpepper will assume the job June 1. She has been in the number two post for 11 years and has more than two decades of experience with the agency.

The appointment was made by Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Secretary John Skvarla.

Culpepper succeeds Dexter Matthews, who will be retiring after nearly 13 years as the division’s director and 30 years in state government.

The Division of Waste Management is responsible for regulating solid waste, hazardous waste, leaking underground storage tanks and Superfund sites in North Carolina. The division also oversees the state’s Brownfields program, which promotes the redevelopment of abandoned, idle or underused sites. The division is part of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
