"We have chosen an elite group of individuals, knowledgeable of safety measures and the reality of crime," Gov. Pat McCrory said in a statement. "I'm confident these men and women will work tirelessly to make North Carolina a safer place to live." 

 

The Commission serves as the chief advisory body to the governor and the secretary of Public Safety on crime and justice issues.  The GCC’s chief initiatives include safer schools, gang prevention and intervention, partnership with veterans and ongoing support for local law enforcement through a strengthened local law enforcement block grant program.

 

The appointees are:

 

Chief Michael G. Yaniero (Onslow County) - Yaniero is the Jacksonville police chief and public safety director. 

 

Chief Tom Adkins (Catawba County) - Adkins is the city of Hickory’s chief of police.  

 

Iva Key (Graham County) -Key is the manager of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians domestic violence program. 

 

Millard McCluney (Mecklenburg County) - McCluney is the youth outreach & scholarship coordinator for the Housing Authority of the city of Charlotte. 

 

The Honorable R.F Golding (Surry County)  - Golding is a Surry County commissioner.  

 

The Honorable Nat Robertson (Cumberland County) - Robertson is the mayor of Fayetteville.  

 

The Honorable Miles Atkins (Iredell County)  - Atkins is the mayor of Mooresville. 

 

The Honorable Wendy Enochs (Guilford County) - Enochs is the chief district court judge for Guilford County.
