Governor Pat McCrory helped open a new $100 million Walmart Distribution Center in Mebane that will create 550 jobs. In December 2013, Governor McCrory announced the distribution center’s plans to create 450 jobs. At today’s grand opening, the governor, local officials and others celebrated Walmart’s plans to exceed those initial job projections.

“Walmart’s announcement that it is exceeding its initial job creation estimates shows that North Carolina has the workforce companies need and the infrastructure and business climate to compete,” said Governor McCrory. “This is more evidence that North Carolina’s economy is strong.”

The Mebane Walmart Distribution Center will be used to supply and distribute perishable food products for more than 55 Walmart stores in North Carolina and Virginia. This particular distribution center will be the company’s fourth distribution facility in North Carolina.

Throughout the ceremony, Governor McCrory and local officials emphasized the economic growth and career opportunities that will be brought to the area by the new distribution center.

Under Governor McCrory’s leadership, North Carolina has one of the fastest growing economies in the nation. Since 2013, unemployment is down in all 100 counties and the private sector has added more than 275,000 jobs.
