RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Airports Council International says Charlotte-Douglas airport is the sixth busiest in the world and the fifth busiest in the United States.

The ranking is based on number of takeoffs and landings.

Charlotte is also the largest hub for U.S. Airways. American Airlines is the key tenant for the airport.

More than 45 million travelers used the airport last year. Eight out of 10 passengers change planes in Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The busiest airports in the world are:
