RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - An abandoned golf course in Grandy will not be the home to a solar farm. Last week Currituck County commissioners denied a permit to the firm seeking to build the farm.

A packed house of opponents attended the commissioners meeting, at which the project's proponent detailed plans and estimated economic impact. Commissioners didn't buy it, even though the landowner asked them to move ahead.

Solar power has become controversial in North Carolina due to the extensive tax breaks given to industry.
