RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - An audit of the Dare County Tourism Board has determined that the board spends restricted funds in accordance with its interpretation of the legislation.

That said, the audit summary added that the enabling legislation lacks clarity, which can lead to different interpretations of the restriction on how funds are used.

The board's mission is to increase tourism in the area. Its primary funding is from a 1 percent tax on prepared food and beverages and a 1 percent occupancy tax. Revenues for 2015 totaled $6.4 million, according to the audit.

The full audit can be found at ncauditor.net.
