RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Harnett County Sheriff Larry Rollins has left the office he's served since 2002, effective Monday at 5p.m. He gave no reason for leaving in his resignation notice.

County commissioners have promoted from within the office, selecting Major Wayne Coats to serve out Rollins' term, which ends in 2018.

ABC 11 reports the commissioners have known about Rollins' impending departure since early February. They reportedly chose Coats from among three candidates.
