RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Fifty-five North Carolina counties had outstanding general obligation debt as of June 30, 2015. The data excludes enterprise debt, according to a report posted to the website of the North Carolina Treasurer's office.

The data is segregated by size of county. At the top, of the 55 with debt, seven counties have population of more than 250,000. One county with oustanding debt had under 10,000 in population.

The report shows that 39 municipalities had oustanding general obligation debt excluding enterprise debt.

Nine of the 39 had populations of more than 100,000. One local government that held debt was very small: a population between 1,000 and 2,499.
