RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - A federal drug sting announced Thursday by federal officials alleges that current and former Northampton County deputies have been involved in a drug-running scheme up and down I-95.
U.S. Attorney Thomas Walker announed 15 arrests in a drug sting that had been underway for nearly two years following a tip that something was amiss.
The 15 people arrested include seven current and former Northampton County deputies, three state corrections officers, and several other people including a Raleigh resident.
Current Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith was informed of the investigation Thursday. Smith told media he was shocked to learn of the situation.
