RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Two local nonprofits will receive grant funding for organ donation education from the state's License to Give Trust Fund Commission. The two will share $81,750.

Community Health Coalition of Durham will receive $31,750 to produce the Toolkit for Success – educational and outreach materials to enhance the donor campaign for organ and tissue donation targeting the African American community in Durham. The primary targets are health care professionals, health centers, private physicians, affinity groups and churches. A short documentary will be produced with oral history interviews from donors, recipients and perspective donors to be used as a tool in the outreach process.

Total Christian Ministries, Inc. of Greenville will receive $50,000 to continue their project entitled the “Eastern North Carolina Donor Impact project.” Its goal is to educate people in Pitt and Edgecombe counties about organ, eye and tissue donation and designate their sign-up with the NC Donor Registry. This grant focuses on the African American, Latino and other minority populations which make-up the majority of people on the waiting list for organ transplants.
