RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Allegiant Air is increasing its footprint at Concord Regional Airport. The low-cost airline has added two more flights per week from Orlando and will soon fly twice weekly from Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg, according to the state Department of Commerce.

Allegiant has transported 30,000 passengers since arriving at the airport last year.

The budget airline flies from around 100 smaller, regional airports to popular vacation destinations like Florida and Las Vegas.

The airport has seen a 150 percent increase in commercial operations since 2012. In addition to Allegiant’s passenger flights, Concord handles business charter flights, scheduled charter flights for NASCAR and other sports teams, cargo operations and more. It is a major economic driver for the area.

Commerce reports that the regional airport has an economic impact to the region of more than $175 million per year and supports more than 1,900 jobs.
