Anson and Ashe Counties Pass Sales Tax Rate Hike, 8 Other Counties Say No

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Voters in Ashe and Anson counties said yes to raising the local sales tax rate by a quarter cent. The Ashe County referendum passed with 53 percen of the vote, while the Anson County ballot item garnered 52 percent.

Voters in eight other counties said no to the same ballot referendum.

The "yes" votes bring to 29 the number of counties that have passed the tax rate hike referendum since the General Assembly gave local governments the option to put it on the ballot.

No votes came in :

Bertie, 55 to 44 percent

Bladen, 71 to 29 percent

Carteret, 55 to 45 percent

Guilford, 57 to 43 percent

Mecklenburg, 61 to 39 percent

Richmond, 70 to 30 percent

Rockingham, 74 to 26 percent
