RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - New Bern police officer Alexander Thalmann, who was killed in the line of duty last week, is being honored with the lowering of North Carolina flags at state facilities in Craven County.

Services for Officer Thalmann will be held Friday in New Bern. WNCT-TV reports a motorcade will carry his casket through downtown New Bern.

Flags will remain at half-staff through sunset on Friday.

“My heart is broken for Officer Thalmann and his loved ones,” said Governor McCrory. “Officer Thalmann had just begun his public service career and the loss of his life in the line of duty is tragic. Our first responders are true heroes and we shouldn’t let a day go by without praying for their safety and thanking them for their valued service to North Carolina.”

Officer Thalmann, 22, was shot in the face by a suspect.
