RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The number of people calling Charlotte home increased by 19,600 in the year-long period from mid-2010 and mid-2011. That makes the Queen City the ninth-fastest growing city in the country, according to U.S. Census data.

Charlotte's population is now 751,087.

Tony Crumbley of the Charlotte Chamber told the Charlotte Observer that the city is a location of choice, as evidenced by the fact that it has grown even during recessions.
He attributes the city's popularity to its quality of life and a cost of living lower than the national average.

New York, Houston, and San Antonio topped the list of fastest-growing cities.
