RALEIGH, (AP) — A former Wake County District Court judge and a lawyer who handles a large number of drunken driving cases have been indicted on charges of altering records in DWI cases.

The Wake County grand jury also indicted one of the attorney's legal aides Tuesday.

Former judge Kristin Ruth, Raleigh attorney James Crouch and his legal aide, Elizabeth Michelle Daniel were indicted following a State Bureau of Investigation review.

Ruth resigned in May after 13 years on the bench. She's charged with omitting and neglecting her duties.

Crouch is charged with obstruction of justice, altering documents and conspiracy. Daniel is charged with conspiracy.

Ruth has said Crouch misled her.

A lawyer for Crouch says he doesn't know why officials didn't change courthouse procedures or file a complaint with the Bar first.
