The Charlotte City Council on Monday voted 7-4 in favor of giving the team $8 million toward the project.

 

The plan calls for the Knights to receive $7.25 million from hotel and motel tax revenues, with the rest coming from an uptown booster group.

 

Mecklenburg County is contributing $8 million and has agreed to an annual $1 lease on land that has been valued at between $20 million and $24 million. The stadium itself is expected to cost $54 million.

 

The Chicago White Sox affiliate team has played in Fort Mill, S.C., for more than 20 years. The Knights say they can start construction in October, with play to begin in April 2014.
