RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - No. That's the answer Gov. Pat McCrory has given to the Obama administration after receiving an official request to reverse state law and allow state investments in Iran.

An April 8 letter from Stephen Mull, the State Department's lead coordinator for implementing the President’s Iran nuclear deal, asked the governor to set aside the state's decision and allow state and local governments to engage in contracts with businesses with ties to Iran.

“Under President Obama’s questionable Iran deal, billions have already been paid or released to Iran’s regime with little to show for it,” the governor said in a statement. “So long as I am governor, North Carolina will not subsidize a regime which remains the world’s lead sponsor of terrorism. It’s time for Washington, D.C. to put the safety, security and best interests of North Carolinians and Americans first.”

The law at issue is the Iran Divestment Act of 2015. It passed with a near unanimous vote in the General Assembly and was signed by McCrory.
