RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Professionals whose role is to ensure public access to public documents through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) will be honored by the Department of Justice (DOJ), which is now seeking nominees for the award.

DOJ will honor the winners March 14 as it kicks off Sunshine Week.

Last year, winners were lauded for Excellence in Management and Outstanding Contributions by a New Employee.

"As we prepare for Sunshine Week 2016, and in recognition of the FOIA’s 50th Anniversary, OIP is seeking nominations for two categories of awards for our 2016 Sunshine Week event," according to DOJ's website. They are:

-- Award for Exceptional Service by a FOIA Professional or Team of FOIA Professionals

-- Lifetime Service Award
