RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Saying their goal is ensure a smoother, more efficient approval process for vaccines, 2nd District Rep. Renee Ellmers and 1st District Rep. G.K. Buttefield have introduced legislation to do so.

Ellmers, a former nurse, said in a statement. “Given the recent outbreak of measles, it’s clear that this legislation is necessary to safeguard public health.”

Among other things, the legislation would make the process used by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to evaluate vaccines and make recommendations more transparent and consistent, according to a news release from Ellmers.

The legislation is part of bills in the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s 21st Century Cures Initiative. Both members sit on the committee.
