RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The new session of Congress has gotten down to business with, among other things, a bill to reduce the size of the federal workforce by 10 percent.

Federal News Radio reports that the bill was introduced by Rep. Cynthia Lummis, Republican of Wyoming. If adopted, it would save $35 billion over five years. The bill would rely on attrition and limiting of new hires.

Lummis' news release pointed to the federal government's $18 trillion debt as reason to pare back spending.
