RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - With the Republicans now in control of both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House, federal agency exectives should prepare for more scrutiny of their operations, according to experts who spoke with FederalNewsRadio.com.

The House has been controlled by Republicans for several years, and the watchdog function has been fully exercised under Rep. Darrell Issa of California, who has led the House Oversight and Government Reform committee.

But with the GOP in control of the U.S. Senate come January, leaders are likely to work with Issa to coordinate investigations and special scrutiny.

Seth Harris, a former Obama administration official, told FederalNewsRadio's Jason Miller: "If there are programs that the majority doesn't like or they think aren't being run well or they think are wasting money or abusive, they are going to investigate them, not necessarily just through the oversight and investigations committees, but it could be that the authorizing committees now will get involved in a more active way."
