Bennett Collette Professor Appointed To N.C. African-American Heritage Commission Print

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Dr. Valerie Ann Johnson of Bennett  College has been appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory to the state's African-American Heritage Commissio.

She is Mott Distinguished Professor of Women's Studies, Director of Africana Women's Studies and former Associate Director of the Honors Program at Bennett College in Greensboro.

The commission advises the Secretary of Natural and Cultural Resources in the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of African-American history, arts, and culture.
 
Dr. Johnson received her Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, M.A. in Sociology from Atlanta University, and B.A. in Sociology from Spelman College.
