RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Dixon Elementary School art teacher Beth Howard thought she was part of an assembly featuring a visit from Gov. Pat McCrory to recognize the Bright Ideas education grant program operated by the Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation.

But then the governor announced her name and, according to jdnews.com, her surprise was obvious as the state's chief executive awarded her the state's honor for her commitment to excellence and innovative ideas over a long career.

Bright Ideas awards grant money to North Carolina teachers.

Also honored with an Order of the Long Leaf Pine award was the veteran leader of the electric cooperative, Ron McElheney.
