RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - It is costing $1.3 million for UNC Pembroke to replace all of of its lighting with light omitting diodes (LEDs) but the university says the conversion will save the university between $130,000 and $185,000 per year.

“LED lights are guaranteed for 7-10 years and expected to last 10-15 years,” said Terry Divine, UNCP’s energy manager in a story posted to the univerity's website. “We will save a lot of money on replacements and save on maintenance by taking fewer trips up and down ladders to replace lamps and ballasts.”

The university spends $3.3 million per year on energy.
