RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Gov. Pat McCrory will be on hand Friday to honor five North Carolina recipients of a scholarship in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

The Buick Achievers Scholarship program offers 50 awards each year in the fields identified as "STEM."

The scholarships are valued at $25,000 and can be renewed each year.

The scholarships are determined on financial need, academic achievement, and community and school activities.

Buick's guidelines note that special consideration is given to first-generation college attendees, women, minorities, military veterans, and dependents of military personnel.

The ceremony will take place at the state Capitol at 2 p.m.
