Four Appointed To Policy-Making Arm Of Community College System PDF Print E-mail

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges is welcoming four new appointees.

The new members are part of a 21-person board.  Appointments are for six years.

New members:

Dr. Samuel Powell (Alamance County) - Dr. Powell is President of Powell Enterprises, a sole proprietorship engaging in industrial property development and management. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Carolina Biological Supply Company, Inc., a company founded by his father. Powell earned his Masters of Science degree in biochemistry from Old Dominion University and a Doctorate in Philosophy in biochemistry/biophysics form Loyola University of Chicago.  

James R. Rose, Jr. (Wake County) - Rose is a Regional Vice President for Yadkin Bank in the Raleigh-Durham area. He has held that position since September 2012 and has over 20 years of banking experience since he graduated from Wake Forest with a B.A. in economics.  

Joseph Wesley Fricks (Wake County) - Fricks began his mortgage banking career with Grandbridge in 2011 as Assistant Vice President after working in a variety of professional capacities, including working in The White House under the Administration of President George W. Bush. He has been serving on the State Board of Community Colleges since January 2014 and has served on other boards such as Marbles Kids Museum and has been active with the Wake County Economic Development group. Fricks is a graduate from Auburn University having received his B.S. in Agricultural Business and Economics. This is a reappointment.

Lisa B. Estep (New Hanover County) - Estep was born in South Bend, Indiana. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1988 with a degree in Accounting and a minor in Professional Writing. Since 1989 she has worked in public accounting with experience in audit, estates and trusts, corporation and individual taxation. She has served as coach, assistant, chaperone, office volunteer, tutor and library volunteer in various public schools. She currently serves on the New Hanover County School Board.
