RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Educators who believe the state's new grading system for public schools is unfair are getting another bite at the apple. On Tuesday a House committee agreed to adjust the formula by which schools are assigned a grade to better reflect academic growth by the students over the school year.

The original formula that resulted in grades of A through F relied 80 percent on test scores on 20 percent on academic growth. The revised 50/50 formula would bump up growth to 50 percent and bump down reliance on test scores to 50 percent.

While some legislators believe this will solve the problem, Rep. Paul Stam of Wake County said the process is flawed to begin with. He endorsed two grades.
