Students From 49 Counties Learn What It's Like To Debate and Make State Law Print

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - No more being on the outside looking in for North Carolina students. More than 200 from 95 schools in 49 counties participated in a two-day mock General Assembly. They were debating everything from an act to require age restriction on the purchase of energy drinks to an act to require ingredients, health warnings and child resistant packaging for e-cigarettes.

Leadership skills were recognized for the following students:

Jonathan Avery of Durham, a senior at Cary Academy

Mary Katherine Falgout of Durham, a senior at Jordan High School

Darby Madewell of Timberlake, a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Math

The Outstanding Service Award honors students who have participated for at least four years, with three of those years being on the leadership team. The 2015 recipients were:

Kierra Bailey of Garner, a senior at West Johnston High School

Velencia Giles of Garner, a senior at West Johnston High School

Martin Kendrick of Sanford, a senior at Cary Academy

Kate Branch of Bahama, a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Math

Darby Madewell of Timberlake, a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Math

Soji Ademiluyi of Holly Springs, a senior at Wake NC State University Early College High
