RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Residents from Wilkes and Henderson counties will take seats on two of the state's education services commissions.

Heather Grant of Wilkes County has been appointed to a two-year term on the North Carolina Council on Educational Services for Exceptional Children. Grant is a nurse practitioner at Yadkin Valley Community Hospital.

The purpose of the Council is to advise the State Board of Education of unmet needs in the education of children with special needs, to comment publicly on rules and regulations proposed by the Board regarding special education and related services, and to develop and report data as required.

North Carolina's Textbook  Commission also has a new member. Brian Frees of Henderson County is an assistant principal at Flat Rock Middle School. His seat is for a four-year term.

The commission evaluates all textbooks offered for adoption. Each textbook shall be read by at least one expert certified in the discipline for which the book would be used.
