RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - North Carolinians will have five opportunities to attend public hearings about proposed changes to services for kids with disabilities. Events will be held in Greenville, Wilmington, Raleigh, Kannapolis, and North Wilkesboro.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Exceptional Children Division will hold the hearings to receive comments regarding proposed amendments to specific sections related to the definition, evaluation and identification of Specific Learning Disabilities of the Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities pursuant to Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).

The amendments to the North Carolina Policies are available for public review from Feb. 4 – March 6. The amendments may be reviewed in person at the NCDPI Exceptional Children Division at the address below between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on the Internet by visiting http://ncpublicschools.org/publicnotices or http://ec.ncpublicschools.gov.

Public hearings will be held at the following locations:

Feb. 16, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Auditorium, Sadie Saulter Elementary School
1019 Fleming Street, Greenville

Feb. 17, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Board Room, Dale K. Spencer Building
1802 South 15th Street, Wilmington

Feb. 23, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Room 150, Education Building
301 N. Wilmington Street, Raleigh

Feb. 24, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Event Room, NC Research Campus
600 Laureate Way, Kannapolis

Feb. 25, 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Stone Center, Performing Arts Center
613 Cherry Street, North Wilkesboro

Advanced registration to speak is not required. Staff will not discuss proposed amendments, but will be present to receive comments only.
