Following approval of their December minutes, Board members will recognize North Carolina’s 2014 Milken Award winner Angie Sigmon (Shuford Elementary, Newton-Conover City Schools); the state’s 2014 Blue Ribbon Schools: Briarcliff Elementary (Wake County Schools), Caldwell Early College High (Caldwell County Schools), Raleigh Charter High (Wake County), Shoals Elementary (Surry County Schools), and West Elementary (Cleveland County Schools); and new State Board of Education Local Board Member Advisor Evelyn Bulluck, chair, Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education and 2014-15 Raleigh Dingman Award Winner from the NC School Boards Association.
The Board will then receive a special presentation on the 2015 Edition of the Heritage Calendar.
State Superintendent June Atkinson will follow with her report to the Board, which includes a legislative report from NCDPI Legislative and Community Affairs Director Rachel Beaulieu.
Under the Board’s Information Agenda, members will receive a report on Exemplary Alternative Education Programs: Turning Point Day Treatment Center.
Under the Consent Agenda, members will approve the Report to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee on Implementation of the ABCs and Statewide Consolidated Assistance Program, Academic Achievement Standards (Cut Score) and Achievement Level Descriptors for End-of-Grade Assessments in English Language Arts/Reading and Mathematics at grades 3-8 and Science at grades 5 and 8, Report to the NC General Assembly: Education of Children in Private Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities, Update of Textbook Policies, Driver Education Policy Revisions, Recommendations for Approval of Superintendent Licensure Programs, NC Public School Personnel State Salary Manual Revisions, Career and Technical Education Credential Allotment, Report to the NC General Assembly on the Process for Assumption of Inadequately Performing Charter Schools and Charter Amendment to Change the Mission Statement for Evergreen Community Charter School.
