CHARLOTTE, (AP) — Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools say they're altering dismissal times and bus routes to help students and their parents navigate the city during the Democratic National Convention.

A statement from the school system said Metro School and Irwin Academic Center will release students early on Thursday, Sept. 6. Metro will release students at noon, with Irwin sending students home at 12:45 p.m.

First Ward Elementary will dismiss its students at 12:45 p.m. on three successive days, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4.

About 400 CMS students live in the Interstate 277 loop, the area that will be most directly affected by the convention. CMS has adjusted about 325 bus routes for the first two weeks of school to ensure smooth transport for students through convention traffic.
