House Bill 2 – North Carolina’s bathroom bill -- is not only a national story, it’s now the subject of a legal standoff between the Obama administration and the state of North Carolina. This week, Gov. Pat McCrory announced he does not agree with the U.S. Justice Department’s assertion that House Bill 2 is discriminatory and a violation of federal law. He is seeking a federal court clarification on the law. In response, the Obama administration sued North Carolina. You’ll  hear comments from both Gov. McCrory and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Then host Donna Martinez delves into the legal wrangling over Title IX law with attorney and North Carolina House Speaker Pro Tem Paul “Skip” Stam, who says the federal government’s legal argument is weak. Then People in Politics Special Correspondent Patrick Johnson gets analysis of the fight from Carolina Journal Managing Editor Rick Henderson. That’s followed by a conversation with 2nd District Rep. Renee Ellmers. Martinez talks with Ellmers about her battle for re-election against two opponents – one of them her current colleague, Rep. George Holding of the 13th District. The two discuss criticism of Ellmers from the right wing of the party, her view on spending, Planned Parenthood, and North Carolina’s House Bill 2.
